A character concept drawing from the Disney Studios animated musical masterpiece, "Fantasia" (1940). Featuring a lively rendering of two centaurettes galloping at full stride, the drawing was created at the studio and used during the early development process of the "Pastoral Symphony" segment of the film. Albert Hurter and Martin Provensen both worked on the sequence and were inspired by the artwork of Arnold Bocklin, a moody symbolist painter, Franz Von Stuck, an art nouveau era artist, and Heinrich Kley, an illustrator and painter. However, throughout the animation process the centaurs and centaurettes became less realistic and took on a more comedic and "cartoony" appearance. Measuring 10"x12" overall, with the image area measuring 7"x10", the drawing is in very good condition with minor edge wear, staple holes in the corners, and a stain due to tape residue on the top right corner.
